A network allowing the normal and
famous the face to seem so connected is just one of the things that snapchat
can give users. I personally know that using snapchat can bring these two
different worlds together. Certain users may connect on a new level with celebrities
or their idols. Users are able to see what they see and connect with them
rather then read things on magazines or buzzfeeds.
Since snapchats launch in
2011 it is estimated that over a 50 Million people use the app as a form of
communication (Colao,2014). Snapchat can connect users from all over the world,
it also provides users “discover” which update users on today’s news or “Live”
which allows users to see what events are happening around the world. Snapchat also allows users to see are their BF and if they are someone elses, who they talk to the most and who they need to give more"love" to.
The network
provides users with a sense of identity and that they can reveal themselves or
what they want people to know whether it be for in 10 second snap to a certain
contact or posted on their “my story” for all their contacts to view. Users project
what they want about themselves to certain people. Images, videos and messages can be instantly
sent from users connecting them to a time and place. Through snapchat you can
symbolically show certain spaces to others and turn them into places that are
meaningful to the user (Tuan,1977). Snapchat also allows users to create a
fresh identity each day, to allow certain people in their life. Although snapchat
doesn’t contain any permanent image of each user for longer than 24 hours the
identity formed by the users varies on level that the user allows. Users are
able to add whoever they want manually or through their phone contacts and to
block certain people. Through snapchat you can be who you want and say what you
want as it is only up for certain people to see and for a limited time.

I agree that Snapchat bonds and unites all communities from across the globe on a personal level. Many people took this ‘personal’ level too far labelling the app as a ‘safe sexting’ (Cluley, 2012) creation when first released. I agree that customers of Snapchat are creating a unity around the world with this free technology that has become so popular in a fast amount of time. Because of virtually being able to depict ‘my story’ to the Snapchat communal, it allows me to see the impact of what happens when sharing snaps and manipulating the viewer to perceive what I want them to believe of my identity and surroundings through the place I am in. Snapchat “extends to the idea that everyone in the world can be connected in just a few steps” (Lundberg, 2015). Do you think the creators of Snapchat created an app that can be described as a Teleportation of one’s place into another’s?
