MAKING SENSE OF THIS SENSELESS WORLD

MAKING SENSE OF THIS SENSELESS WORLD

Sometimes we all lack common sense and in this universe we try make sense of everything, but can it be done?

Ontology is a systematic theory of existence (JCU learn, 2015)why do we exist? Its hard question and I don’t think we will ever find out. With chaos going on constantly in our world it is hard to understand why we actually do exist. At this rate the human race is not only causing the earth to suffer but causing suffering amongst ourselves. Senseless acts are committed every day that are harm our world. The only reason I can see that we exist is to ultimately destroy the earth or ourselves.

Facebook and other social networks are capturing the whole thing constantly. Facebook is somewhere all the stories of the world come together in one place and show what’s happening in space around the world. We see them all the time, the disasters or devastation that we are doing to the world and to each other. Take the recent events in Virginia, a senseless act the ended in the death of two people. What was going through the mind of the shooter and how can we make sense of his rash actions. We still seem to ignore it like it’s not happening. Once these stories are posted on Facebook that place becomes damaged “Malicious speech has the power to destroy a places reputation” (Tuan, 1991) It seems to me that we don’t really care about existence as a species at all.

James Thurber once said “The past is an old armchair in the attic, the present an ominous ticking sound, and the future is anybody's guess” (Thurber, 2015) He is right, will never know what the future brings until it’s here.

  1. I agree with your first point about how senseless acts are committed everyday and I enjoyed your philosophical rant about human existence and the world. I also agree that Facebook has become a popular platform for sharing news and stories from everywhere in the world. However, I don't agree with your argument that posting news about a tragic event ruins Facebook. I have never seen someone write a post on Facebook celebrating a horrible event such as a shooting, only kind posts offering sympathy for those affected. As Tuan says "warm conversation between friends can make the place itself seem warm" therefore Facebook becomes a place associated with kindness and solace for the people affected by the tragedy (1991, 684).

  2. I agree, most people tend to take everything that is provided to us for granted. Most of this is because we can use it every day, we do not know or remember what it is like to live without social media sites such as Facebook and our own personal possessions such as clothes, food and water.
We take everything for granted, many countries living in this stage of chaos need the chance to accept what they have instead of being greedy and wanting more and more. Brining this understanding should aid in the breaking down and ending of many arguments and wars. However bringing this understanding to world is never easy, many people are blinded by their own greed and want to have more and be better. Meaning that the world just continues its cycle of chaos until someone is strong enough to stand against it all.
