Writerscafe.org
is a social media community that is both free and secure, a way that this is so
is that you can control who can see your posts/stories. When you’re creating
your piece, you of course, have to put a title, say something about the piece,
you can choose to put tags on it and you also have to select your target
audience and the genre you’re writing in, to make it easier for readers to find
it. Below those selections is the text box where you put your piece and below
that, are specific settings. Those settings are viewing settings, they range
from whether or not you want members and non-members of the community to be
able to read and review your writing, or just members, just non-members or no
one at all. There is also the option of whether or not people can comment on it
and review it and whether or not you want other members to be able to comment
on someone else’s review.
As a member of this community I know that writing stories and reviewing stories can bring people from all walks of life together. Not only can your stories be reviewed but you can receive points from each review you write, you can keep track of how many views you’ve gotten and also receive buttons to display on your profile. These buttons range from accomplishing how many reviews you’ve received, how many you’ve given and also how many writing competitions you’ve won.

The network gives writers and up and coming authors a sense
of pride and identity – a lot of authors on writerscafe.org let their
personality shine through their writing and also pour their hearts into their
writing. Writers young and old use writerscafe.org as a safe place to put their
works and also a lot of writers are serious and aim to accomplish something
with writerscafe.org whether that be just to justify to themselves that they are
a good writer or in hopes to find an agent/publisher. An example of this would
be my close pen pal Woody. He regularly writes on writerscafe.org and is a
retired journalist, he writes not only for the views and the reviews but he
also writes for writers.cafe.org because he enjoys his works and loves to hear
that his stories make others happy.
After reading the required reading for week three, I came
across this quote in the very beginning of the article, and I felt that this
quote was best suited to explain the networks within writerscafe.org; “‘Space’ and
‘place’ are familiar words denoting common experiences. We live in space. There
is no space for another building on the lot. The Great Plains look spacious.
Place is security, space is freedom: we are attached to the one and long for
the other”. (Tuan, Yi-Fu, Space and Place: the Perspective of Experience, 1977)
